Women’s Auxiliary
Service Held, April 29, 2007…

All Women Auxiliaries
across the Progressive Church body observed a special Women’s Auxiliary Service
on April 29th or did a special out reach project on that weekend. Our
local Women’s Auxiliary Sunday morning service was held April 29, 2007. The
Women’s Choir was very enthusiastic in their anointed songs of praise rendering
such songs as, “I Came To Magnify the Lord”, “Here I am To Worship”, “Breathe
Into Me”, “Be Grateful” and “God Is”.
Sis.
Janis Deas, WA President gave some remarks regarding the
women really working together and coming together more and more. She asked for
a moment of silence in remembrance of Sis. Zelda Farley who passed away March 4,
2007. After the moment of silence she announced that a rose bush would be
planted in Sis. Farley’s memory. Sis. Farley was mainly responsible for the
planting of shrubbery and flowers around the church. The rose bush is called a
“Home Run Rose” and would be planted outside immediately after morning worship.
Sis. Deas did a presentation of “How Can A Woman Not Love the Lord?” This would
be the focus of the testimonies the women would give today.
The secretary, Sis. Jamala
Sampson gave a brief update on the work of the Women’s Auxiliary and how they
had most recently made homemade cookies for the children’s home; visited the
nursing home where they sang, talked with the residents and passed out fruit,
snacks and drinks they brought along. The women also provided food and
encouragement for the family of the late Sis. Zelda Farley.
Testimonies were given by
three sisters. Sis. Amber Meridy, age 8 told how the Lord blesses her Mom to
take care of them, and she thanked the Lord for the Pastor and her church family
and for blessing her in school. Sis. Ariel Smith, of the Yong Adult group, and
recent college grad (Howard University, 2005, B.S. Chemical Engineering), told
how the Pastor and church have been there for her during the death of her
brother, and the love that is shown to her continuously, for the word being
preached and how the Lord has increased her faith and she was trusting she would
receive the full scholarship to obtain her Masters Degree that she had applied
for (Note: Since that time, Sis. Smith has received the scholarship. She is
currently attending Georgia State University pursuing her Masters in Secondary
Mathematics Education). She is truly grateful for the Lord being in her life and
told how she is so glad that she listened to Godly counsel which she had not
always done. She also expressed gratitude to the Lord for her grandmother, the
pastor and the Holy Spirit ministering to her. Sis. Cynthia Howard expressed
how the Lord has kept her down through the years and how he has blessed her
tremendously on her job. She continues to receive increases in her salary and
most recently had received a raise of 7%. She is thankful for her companion,
Dec. Howard, their children, and her church family as well. She also states
that the presence of the Lord in her life means so much to her and she can see
Him work in her life.
Pastor Deas’ sermon topic
was “Keeping It Real” and scripture references were taken from Proverbs 21:9,19;
Romans 16:1- 6, Acts 18:24-28. Pastor Deas spoke of how women have helped
to build up the work of the ministry. He asked the question “What kind of
woman are you hanging out with?” He also admonished women to quit begging men
for anything because they should have to do that. Women should do all they can for
themselves. The message as always was thought provoking and spirit filled.
After the service everyone
gathered at the front of the church yard for the planting of the “Home Run”
rosebush.
