It’s A Cultural Affair…

The Women’s Auxiliary Brunch, held Sunday
afternoon, June 3, 2007 truly proved to be a time of fellowship and
a culturally
rewarding experience. Some of the attendees had not been to what is considered
a “fine dining restaurant.” So the idea of going out for a brunch or a tea was
brought forth. After research of information by Sis. Alisha Alford and Sis.
Felicia Washington, it was decided to go to the River Room Restaurant in
Atlanta. The brunch time was set for 2:30p.m. Everyone paid their fees in
advance and gathered in their finer attire to attend this cultural event. We
were encouraged to wear hats, and bring along gloves if you had them. The
excitement filled the air among those planning to attend.
We were given a lesson in appropriate behavior and how to
express displeasures, should any arise. Some did arise, but these women of
elegance showed very little outward signs of their disappointment and handled
each situation with grace! Applause, applause, applause. Our home training paid
off big time. We were not charged the full prices for our meals! To God be the
glory!
It was so refreshing to go out and have an afternoon of
fellowship with the sisters. Sis. Deas greeted everyone after the seating. Our
orders were taken and we continued to mingle with one another. After the grace
was said and the food arrived, we enjoyed a variety of dishes (see photos
below) of some of the delectable delights). We chose the items in
advance to be included on our menu because of the size of our group.
Fellowship games included each person naming a woman of the
Bible, even if she was not named, you could say for example “the woman with the
issue of blood.” No name could be repeated. We successfully named 29 women of
the bible, representing the 29 attendees. Sis. Washington was able to secure
cans of cookies from the Doubletree Hotel which was given as a gift to (1) the
first person to pay for the brunch, Sis. Margaret Carter, (2) the one who could
name Moses’ wife went to Sis. Josiland Jackson, her name was Zipporah.
Some of the women told
what this experience meant to them and how they enjoyed the
brunch and fellowship. Our visitors included Sis. Ariel Smith's
grandmother, Mother Hearst, Sis. McIntyre's
mom, Sis. Kelly, came all the way from Hinesville, Georgia to be
with us, Sis. Carol Carter's mom, Sis.
Jeannette Carter (who has since gone home to be with the Lord),
and Sis Alisha Alford's mother,
Romenia came along with us as well. The group gathered to enjoy
the outside scenery and took pictures after their meal.
Our many thanks to Sis. Alisha Alford and Sis. Felicia
Washington for assisting in planning this event. Also our thanks to those who
helped to sponsor the Junior sisters to be able to be in attendance. Everyone
enjoyed this cultural event and look forward to what we will do next…
