About our Pastor and His Family…
Earnest Leonardo Deas is one of 12 children born
to Thomas and Uneedia Deas of Florence, SC. He was baptized in Jesus' name at
the early age of nine. Since that time, he has been serving God and working in
His vineyard.
After receiving his secondary education in the
schools in Florence, SC, Pastor Deas completed Morehouse College with a B.S.
Degree in Psychology. He later attended the Interdenominational Theological
Center from which he obtained a Master of Divinity Degree in Pastoral
Counseling.
In 1975, Pastor Deas began his pastoral ministry
by teaching Bible Class in the home of Sis. Grace McGill. Since that time,
Pastor Deas has taught many Bible Classes and delivered countless sermons
resulting in many souls being saved. The Lord has blessed us through Pastor Deas,
a man of great faith, to purchase our present edifice here at 2857 Zane Grey
Drive, Atlanta.
On July 6, 1991, Pastor Deas was ordained as an
Elder by the current Presiding Bishop of the Progressive Church of Our Lord
Jesus Christ, Bishop Edward Smith.
Pastor Deas is employed by the City of Atlanta,
and also serves in the capacity of a Chaplain and has coordinated all Law
Enforcement Chaplains' Certification Training throughout the State of Georgia on
behalf of the GACP.
Our pastor is a Visionary and always seeks to
implement programs and spiritual growth for the people of God. His short term
goals are (1) to improve the wholistic ministry of the church; (2) to establish
a network to ensure that all saints have good, stable jobs and a home, if they
so desire; since expressing his vision through the Word of God that the saints
become homeowners, seven (7) saints have purchased homes in the past 3 ½ years,
five (5) of whom are first time homeowners; and (3) to have our Computer Lab up
and running. Pastor Deas’ long range goal includes a plan to purchase or build
another church and move from our current location.
Our pastor and his wife, Janis (Brown) Deas
recently celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary. Our 1st lady, Sis. Deas
graduated from Blayton Business College, Atlanta, Georgia (now closed) with a
degree in Executive Secretarial Science. She received the Gregg Shorthand Award
and was an honor student upon graduation. Sis. Deas has over 25 years experience
in the Administrative Assistant/Secretarial field. Her number one priority has
always been her God, her husband, and to rear her children; therefore, she
sacrificed and adjusted her work schedule accordingly. She believes that when
assigned to do any job, you should only give your best, and always ask for God’s
blessing and help. She is a good example to the church family in her
faithfulness in church attendance, her prayer life, and in her demeanor. Her
family often speaks of her virtues. Sis. Deas works faithfully and lovingly by
our pastor’s side. She sings in the choir, serves as President of the Women’s
Auxiliary department, is a teacher for the local married women, and has been a
teacher during Regional Seminars for married women, and she retired after
serving over 25 years as a Junior Sunday School Teacher. Pastor and Sis. Deas
are the proud parents of three children, who are also faithful members of the
church. They have taught their children by their example, that the work of the
Lord always comes first.
Dawn N. Deas, is a May, 2000 State University of
West Georgia graduate, with a Bachelor’s Degree in English. She is currently
employed as a Teacher by the Dekalb County School System, at Shadow Rock Center.
She teaches emotionally and behaviorally challenged students. In a prior
position as an Assistant Teacher, her Principal and Lead Administrator
highlighted their class as a model for other classes at the center. Dawn loves
singing and working with young people and is the Youth Choir Directress and
Co-Director of the Music Ministry. She is also a youth teacher on 4th Sundays
for the Young Adult Class Training Program. Dawn also serves as an advisor to
the Youth Department.
Emmanuel L. Deas, completed his coursework at
Morehouse College, December, 2001 for a degree in Business Management. He
graduated from Morehouse on May 19, 2002. Emmanuel is employed by Dekalb County
School System as a teacher at Southwest Dekalb High School, his alma mater.
Emmanuel is also am Assistant Football Coach at Decatur High School. He serves a
drummer for the Youth and Mass choirs and sings with the Brotherhood choirs. He
has also served as Youth President, and has been faithful in assisting his
pastor in the "bus" ministry of the church. Emmanuel is married to the former
Natalie Y. Patman and are the proud parents of a son, Draiden.
Eldrin L. Deas received a full tuition scholarship
to attend Morehouse College where he is scheduled to complete his Math major in
December 2006... In Eldrin’s scholarship award letter from Morehouse, he was
heralded as being one of the applicants that "stood out" above the rest. He
graduated from Chamblee Charter High School/High Achievers Program, May 2002.
While at Chamblee, Eldrin was a member of the orchestra and has played the viola
since the age of 11. After taking the PSAT, Eldrin was recognized for scoring in
the top 5 percentile in the nation. Eldrin sings in the Youth, Brotherhood, and
Mass Choirs. In his spare time he writes music, and plays the keyboard &
guitar.
Pastor Deas and his family continue to work
faithfully and diligently in the Lord's vineyard. Pastor Deas firmly believes
that "there is nothing too hard for God." The Lord gave our pastor our church's
motto "A Church Where Love Abounds." The love and zeal our pastor and his family
have, is applied to all areas of their life.
