Vacation Bible School 2011 Held…

A week of learning, fun, and fellowship began with the commencement of the 2011 Vacation Bible School (VBS), held July 25-29, 2011 at the church  This year’s theme was “Inside Out-Upside Down on Main Street.”  The theme highlighted one key word each day that could be found along “Main Street.”  The words were GRATITUDE, COMPASSION, FORGIVENESS, GRACE  and FAITHFULNESS.  Each day began with corporate devotions and introduction of the word for the day before heading to the various classes.  In the classrooms, with the exception of the adult class, the word for the day was defined, a biblical story was discussed, and practical applications were given. All of the biblical stories were parables relating to the word for the day. Along with classroom instruction, a visit to the “The Brown Bag Bistro” was a favorite among all of the classes.  At the Bistro, students were also asked to give the word for the day, and were given instructions on making the snack for the day that corresponded with the day’s lesson.  The food was very colorfully displayed and “wetted” the appetite of all the attendees.  The primary class, junior class & teens also participated in the movement class called “Firehouse Fitness,” and played games which also corresponded with the word of the day.

The adult class instructor wrote the lessons for his class since there were no adult books for this series.  The week’s topics included: (1) “Worship in Spirit & in Truth,” (2) “Is Jesus the Only Way to Salvation?” (3) “When Jesus Steps in Your Boat,” (4) “The Laborers are Few,” and (5) Overcoming Fear..and Getting Started.  Scriptures were given to support each topic, and students also shared personal experiences. Some of the week’s focus for this class was worship, witnessing to others about the plan of salvation, the changes that should take place in a Christ centered life, and how to overcome fear and get started on the path you would like to accomplish.  Various kinds of fears were also identified. A written review/quiz was given at the end of the week, along with points to remember.

Each session ended with corporate review of the day’s events and the meal for the day.

By week’s end, all were exhausted, but had wonderful experiences and more knowledge of God’s word and its practical application to our daily lives. Everyone also left with many fond memories to take home with them.  We’re looking forward to VBS 2012!

appreciation for all that they do!
