Easter Sunday Morning Service

Easter Sunday Morning Service, April 8, 2007

Brotherhood Department in charge…

The Brotherhood Department is in charge of the Sunday morning services each 2nd Sunday.  This date fell on Easter Sunday and they invited the participation of the Youth and Dance Ministry to take a special part in the service.

The Responsive Reading selected for the service was certainly befitting of the occasion, Isaiah 53:1-6, 11, and rang out with joy and celebration among the congregants.  The Brotherhood Choir sang songs of praise.  A special presentation by the Brotherhood, Youth & Dance Ministry entitled “He is Risen” was very thought provoking and powerful, and gave vivid accounts of the events which led to Jesus’ crucifixion, the road to the cross, and Jesus’ triumphant reentry into Jerusalem.  Real palm branches were brought in and laid down in celebration of Jesus entry, and the song “Hail, Hail, Lion of Judah” was sung together with the dance ministry’s leadership. The older brothers and sisters did an excellent job of working together as a group with the youth to make this presentation a wonderful success.

An inspirational reading written in the program entitled “His Resurrection Destiny,” by Oswald Chambers was also a keepsake.  The main scripture reference from this reading was Luke 24:26, “Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?”

Pastor Deas gave the sermon of the hour using the topic “From Death to Life.” Scripture references were St. Matthew 28:1-7, Romans 6:1, Exodus 30:17 and St. John 13:6.  Pastor Deas admonished us by declaring “It’s time to live.  As Christ was physically risen from the dead, we can become spiritually resurrected from the dead.  He went on to say that our lives should exemplify that that the old man does not live here any more.  Each of us must ask ourselves, have I been resurrected?  Jesus is calling us to go wash.  It’s time for a cleansing!” He admonished everyone to remember what Christ has done for us and to commit our lives to Him, and not to take this death, burial and resurrection for granted.    Pastor Deas also commented how much the production presentation meant to him and he would like to see other such productions as everyone use his/her talents to magnify and glorify our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Brotherhood Department thanks Sis. McIntyre and all those who worked with her to help make the presentation “He is Risen” a success. The service was enjoyed by all in attendance and the presence of the Holy Spirit was surely in the “temple.”
