COMPUTER
CLASSES HELD—
NEVER TOO OLD TO
LEARN…
Many of the saints
expressed an interest in becoming more computer savvy, and the Sunday
school teachers wanted to improve their computer skills to offer more of
a variety to meet the needs of their students. Many found that they
were all thumbs when it came to some of the basic computer terminology
and various programs. Dec. Al Alford offered to teach such a class, and
although the class was initially opened to everyone, only the Sunday
school teachers enrolled in this session.
The computer class
began on April 7, 2008 and ended on June 2, 2008 and was designed to
last a period of 6 weeks. A few of the classes had to be canceled due
to prior engagements. The class met on Monday nights following a long
day of work for some of the students. Many of the students quickly found
out just how much they did not know about computers. Dec. Alford quickly learned that he would have to exercise the patience of Job, and
slow his pace down quite a bit, especially later on as the students left
their homework undone. Nevertheless, the students were very eager to
learn.
Deacon Alford
began with basic computer terminology, the windows
environment, desktop utilities, navigational techniques, saving and
storing files.
At the conclusion
of the sessions the students were able to use Microsoft Office Word to
create, edit, format, layout, and print standard business documents with
tables and graphics. In addition students learn to edit documents by
locating and modifying text, format text, format paragraphs, add tables
to a document, proof documents, control page setup and the overall
appearance of a document.
We commend Dec.
Alford for the time and preparations that went into teaching this
class. Whatever task he is assigned to do, he does it with all of his
strength, might and God given abilities. Dec. Alford is a former
instructor for the Xerox Learning Center in Atlanta, and after the
Learning Center was closed, Dec. Alford returned to the field where he
currently is a Senior Customer Service
Engineer for high volume production color printers.
Dec. Alford is
quite astute in financial planning and budgeting. He is currently the
church’s Financial Chairperson. He is very much interested in the
welfare of the saints, and has exhibited his concern by offering
Financial Management classes for the saints free of charge. Dec. Alford
also counsels the saints in their financial matters upon their
requests. He is always willing to offer his assistance whenever needed.
Finally, Dec.
Alford serves as the President of the Harvest Investment Group which has
been established for seven years, all of which he has been its
President. The HIG is comprised of, but not limited to church members.
Deacon, are you
ready for the next class??
