BROTHERHOOD SERVES DINNER OF LOVE…

 

Traditionally during the month of February, the world turns its attention to Valentine’s Day, and thoughts of the one they love enter into the minds of many people.  But on Sunday, February 17, 2008, the Brotherhood Department took a different approach.  They prepared dinner for all of the sisters in the church and visiting sisters, to show their love and appreciation to them for all that they do.

All that I can tell you all is that the BROTHERS CAN COOK!  As we entered downstairs we could smell the pleasant aroma of a number of fragrant dishes filling our nostrils through the air.  The menu consisted of baked ham, fried chicken, beef roast w/vegetables, string beans w/potatoes, collard greens, glazed carrots, rice, macaroni n’ cheese, pinto beans, tossed salad, assorted cakes, soft drinks and tea.

 The dining areas were amply decorated with white tablecloths, candles and flowers on the tables.  Bro. Greg Marsh personally handles the décor and decorations for the dinners the Brotherhood prepare. The sisters were served with love and smiles of enthusiasm, and all you could see and hear of the brothers were that they were “busy working and serving” with joy, pride and delight.

 The Brotherhood Department is under the leadership of Dec. Jerome Howard who is known to be a no-nonsense individual and is always ready to lend a helping hand wherever and whenever he is needed.  Brotherhood Co-Chairs are Min. Matthew Pinkney and Bro. Alan Murray. The Brotherhood Department joined the Women’s Auxiliary this year in providing hats, mittens/gloves for all of the youth in the church and many received other clothing items as well.  The brothers also collected canned items and non-perishable goods for a food drive for the benefit of a needy family during the month of November.  Various brothers also donate their skill and time to complete various tasks around the church.  More recently, Dec. Howard and Min. Sweet donated funds they earned working at one of the saints’ home to the Brotherhood treasury.  The Brotherhood choir faithfully renders the music on 2nd Sundays during the morning worship service. They hold monthly meetings on 2nd Sundays after morning worship service.

 We appreciate all of the work that the brothers continue to do for the up-building of the Kingdom of God, and to help strengthen their personal lives and the lives of their families.
