DEACON JEROME HOWARD PASSES THE MANTLE…

On
Sunday, October 12, 2008 during our Brotherhood department service, Deacon
Jerome Howard was honored for his over 20 years of faithful service as chairman
of the Usher Board. Deacon Howard has been on duty rain, shine, snow, or sleet,
each service where he was needed. He has worn several hats for years too
countless to remember, serving as a deacon, Trustee Board member, chair of the
Brotherhood department, electrician, handyman and bus driver for the van
ministry.
Deacon Howard’s smile, and his gentle, soft
spoken manner, humorous, but yet serious and firm, has compelled many of the
brothers to follow his great example. If a job needs to be done, and he is
unable to rally help, many times Deacon Howard will do the job himself to ensure
that it gets done.
When Deacon Howard first came to the church, he
was quite shy and hesitant about working in the church. After much nurturing
and assurance, Deacon Howard grew spiritually and naturally. He has been a
blessing to the church and his family.
Pastor Deas presented a plaque to Deacon Howard
on behalf of the church, for his countless years of service. Although everyone
realizes that the plaque can in no way repay such a faithful servant, we all
wanted him to know that he is loved and appreciated. Deacon Howard’s children
and wife have made and continues to make sacrifices to lend their father and
husband to the ministry. Sister Cynthia Howard is constantly by her husband’s
side to help in whatever way she can and possesses the quiet spirit and demeanor
of a deacon’s wife. Deacon & Sister Howard have been married 22 years and are
the parents of two sons, Jeremy and Jerron,
Deacon Howard has retired one of his hats, and
passed the mantle of Usher Board Chairman to Brother Elliott Sean McIntyre.
Deacon Howard will be working with Brother McIntyre as he is learning his job
and soliciting others to come on board and help. Since becoming chairperson,
Bro. McIntyre has been on duty as assigned, and whenever he is unable to perform
his task(s), he is always sure that someone else can stand in for him.
Deacon Howard, we love and appreciate you and
are praying that more brothers will step up to the business of Kingdom Building
and work equally as hard in the vineyard. Keep up the good work, servant of
God!
