WOMEN’S AUXILIARY HOLDS FATHER’S DAY DINNER…
FIRST FATHER OF THE YEAR RECOGNITION…

Fathers were recognized during the morning worship service on Sunday,
June 17, 2011. The brotherhood department, under the leadership of Min. Tarryl
McIntyre initiated its first annual “Father of the Year Award.” This year’s
recipient was Bro. Emmanuel Deas. Among the remarks Min. McIntyre made before
presenting the award, was that he had observed Bro. Deas quietly going about his
duties as drummer, father, and bread-winner, for a long time. Min. McIntyre and
Bro. Deas both fought back tears as Min. McIntyre told of Bro. Deas’ faithful
commitment to having his family in church sometimes single-handedly having all
three children in tow, yet always having a smile on his face and never
complaining, despite holding down two secular jobs to support his family. Bro.
Deas was given a standing ovation and a monetary gift from the Brotherhood
Department.
Following the morning worship service, the Women’s
Auxiliary, under the leadership of Sis. Qualyn McIntyre invited the brothers,
saints and visitors to a dinner downstairs. Each brother was served their meal
with much love and appreciation. The meal was catered by Sister LaTonya Marsh
with the monetary contributions of the auxiliary members who also served as
hostesses and servers. The meal consisted of Turkey wings, chicken with
dressing, tossed salad, fried corn, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, pink
lemonade, iced tea, red velvet cake and “Miss Bessie’s Sweet Potato Cobbler”
(which has become a staple at all of the church dinners). Everyone enjoyed the
fun, food and fellowship. The brothers and fathers were also given Hershey’s
chocolate candy to further show appreciation for all that they do!
